Tokyo Daijingu - a Shinto Shrine, near Iidabashi in Tokyo
For Japanese New Year (Shōgatsu), there are many traditions, and one of them is pay a visit to a shrine or a temple for the first time of the year. It is usually done on January 1st, 2nd or 3rd, but a lot of shrines and temples are still busy up until the second week of January. After a student, Naoko-san, told me about a shrine that many women go to, because it was known as the 'love shrine', I decided it would be a good idea to pay a visit. I went to Tokyo Daijingu, and sure enough, the shrine was full of women. (^_^)
Tokyo Daijingu is one of five main shrines in Tokyo, along with Meiji Jingu, Yasukuni Jinja, Okunitama Jinja and Hie Jinja. It is associated with Ise Jingu in Mie Prefecture, which is one of the most famous shrines in Japan. Both shrines are dedicated to Amaterasu, the goddess of the sun and the universe in Japanese mythology.

On 11th of January, I lined up, made an offering and prayed for love.
I decided to get 'fortune paper' or Omikugi as well. It is tradition to get a fortune for the year, and see what it predicts, then you can either tie it to a tree in the shrine grounds, or you can keep it. Tokyo Daijingu tells fortunes of love, and my fortune for the year was nothing but wonderful news. Two months later, I met my sunshine, Y-san. (^_^)
